I LOVE FOOD! I love learning about it, growing it, cooking it, eating it, talking about it, writing about it…Yet surprisingly, despite my food obsession, I am not overweight and I am in good health in my 50s. I am a busy professional, yet I have decided to spend my minimal spare time writing this website and blog. Why?
I am a dietitian and a farmer, and in the past I have also been employed as a chef. So I have spent most of my life thinking about and learning about food. When I hear the latest food trend or research in the media: “you should eat margarine instead of butter”, “no margarine is bad for you”…”you should eat more fish”, “no fish has too much mercury”, etc. etc. I investigate and read the studies and arrive at a decision regarding what is the healthiest and most delicious way to feed my family. But you are probably not a dietitian and farmer and chef, and it is likely the information and controversy are at times overwhelming. Many people just give up and “eat what is fast” or “eat what tastes good”. But these food choices have a profound impact on our health and the health of this planet.
My goal is to share with you some of the what I have learned in my 30 years of studying food, to help you to understand what foods I recommend eating more of or less of, and why. I also want to simplify your life by advising you where to get these foods, and how to prepare them in healthy and delicious ways. I want to share with you my successes and failures in trying to eat healthy and delicious food. I want to be your friend in the kitchen, so please come back here often to visit and take this food journey with me.
